ADVANCED TEXTILE INNOVATION CENTRES IN JORDAN: DEFINING EQUIPMENT AND SERVICES

In late September 2019, a delegation of the Romanian project partner INCDTP travelled to Jordan to visit Al-Balqa Applied University (BAU) and Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), with the aim to define the equipment and services needed for the new advanced textile innovation centres. The visit is part of the project’s preparation activities and fundamental to evaluate on site crucial aspects such as the available research capacity, the training needs for both students and experts, and the possibility to integrate refugees (migrants) in training, start-ups and large companies.

The Romanian team, composed by Ms. Raluca Maria Aileni and Ms. Lilioara Surdu, visited the facilities of JUST in Irbid on September 24th guided by FOSTEX project representatives of the University and the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI).  After identifying the current chemical processing lab as the facility that will host the future textile innovation centre, a comprehensive list of needed equipment is agreed on by the responsible project partners.

On the following day, September 25th, the two Romanian experts met Prof. Mosa Emran, BAU’s Dean of Science and Dean of Postgraduate college as well as Dr. Ghazi Alweshah, Vice dean of research at BAU. Being a university doing mainly fundamental research, basic equipment for textile testing, such as UV-IR Spectrometer, Differential Scanning Calorimeter, Fourier Transform IR are considered useful for the future advanced textile centre. BAU has already available space at its Al-Salt Campus where to set-up the innovation centre.

Now that FOSTEX has entered its second year of activities, the consortium will focus on setting up the textiles centres and preparing the strategy and contents to achieve the project goals.
